Les Trois Ilets

Les Trois Ilets

Trois Ilets Martinique: Pictures and description

The commune of Trois Ilets covers the entire southern coast of the bay of Fort de France and owes its name to the three small islets facing it. It is the most important tourist center in Martinique.

The town benefits from the best leisure infrastructures: Marina, water activities, shops of the “Village Créole”, golf, restaurants, nightclubs, casino… Every day, a maritime shuttle connects Les Trois Ilets to Fort de France in around twenty minutes (departure from La Pointe du Bout, Anse Mitan and Anse à l'Ane).

Les Trois Ilets brings together three very distinct sectors:

  • The charming town of Trois Ilets,
  • The large hotels of Pointe du Bout and Anse Mitan,
  • Anse à l’Ane, more suitable for family stays.

Trois Ilets: The town

The village has managed to retain a picturesque charm a little different from other towns in Martinique. In fact, it houses a pottery factory – created in the 18th century, it is the oldest company on the island – which produced the bricks and tiles characteristic of the town.

It was in Trois Ilets, at the Domaine de la Pagerie, that Marie Josèphe-Rose de la Pagerie was born in 1763. Her exceptional destiny began at the age of sixteen, when she left Martinique to marry Alexandre de Beauharnais and take the name Joséphine de Beauharnais. Shortly after her husband was guillotined during the Terror, she married General Bonaparte for the second time and then became Empress of the French.

Today you can visit the Pagerie museum built on the family's former home which traces the life of Joséphine as well as the history of Martinican sweets. In the same vein, you can also discover at the Maison de la Canne the complex relationships that have developed between a plant, a land and a people.

Between the village of Trois Ilets and Pointe du Bout, the Golf de Trois Ilets is a magnificent 18-hole international course, PAR 71, designed by Robert Trent Jones and very popular with amateurs.

Trois Ilets: Pointe du Bout and Anse Mitan :

A few kilometers west of the town, on the peninsula facing Fort de France, the largest seaside center in Martinique includes several 3 and 4 star hotels. The artificial beaches of Pointe du Bout, right at the foot of the hotels, allow you to easily and safely enjoy the warm, turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea.

Although Pointe du Bout lacks charm and authenticity, the new Creole village reconciles modernity and tradition in clothing and it is very pleasant to go shopping in these charming pedestrian streets. Several bars and restaurants are located there, a few nightclubs are also nearby. La Pointe du Bout is also one of the liveliest places in Martinique in the evening.

Very close to Point du Bout, the natural white sand beach of Anse Mitan brings together more modest hotels, lodges and bungalows popular with families.

Trois Ilets: Anse à l'Ane

L’Anse à l’Ane is a small hamlet with a pretty white sand beach. Calmer and less dense than Pointe du Bout, there are mainly several residences and a few beach restaurants. Off the coast of L'Anse à l'Ane, Ilet à Ramiers once defended the entrance to the bay of Fort de France. Some remains of a battery remain there. The town has many villa rentals, mainly at Pointe du Bout and Anse à l'âne. To discover them, we invite you to consult our search engine dedicated to villa rentals in Martinique.
