Gustavia

Gustavia

Gustavia, the heart of Saint Barthélémy! Even though Gustavia is nowadays a popular resort for billionaires, the capital of the island of Saint-Barthélemy has retained the charm of its past and the relaxed lifestyle of the tropics.

Formerly called Carénage, it was in honor of King Gustav III of Sweden that the city changed its name to Gustavia. The monuments and forts still bear witness to a unique past. Gustavia is a mixture of colonial dwellings and small stone and wooden houses, a heritage from the days when the island was a possession of the Kingdom of Sweden in the 18th century. Stroll along its luxury tax-free shops or take a break on the terrace of the cafes ... maybe you will meet some celebrities who have got off their yachts! Built around its port, the sea is therefore omnipresent in Gustavia. Shell Beach, one of the liveliest, is within walking distance from the center. In the heights, from the remains of Fort Gustave, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the harbor.
